Sometimes, true leadership means stepping out of the boardroom, putting on a work shirt, and literally climbing a pole.
In the climate-tech and deep-tech sectors, it is easy to get caught up in high-level strategy, pitch decks, and software architectures. But at Airvolt, we believe that when you are deploying critical smart city infrastructure, understanding the technology from the physical hardware all the way up to the cloud integration is not just an advantage — it is an absolute necessity. Quality cannot be entirely delegated; it must be owned from the ground up. Or, in this case, from the bucket of a utility truck down.
Yesterday, we took a hands-on approach to execute a vital technical maintenance mission for our air quality monitoring network in Chitila Municipality. Here is a look behind the scenes at what it takes to keep a smart city breathing and transmitting data flawlessly.
The Chitila Mission: Upgrading Hyper-Local Infrastructure
Chitila Municipality is setting a powerful example for urban centers across the CEE region. I want to extend my sincere congratulations to the Mayor of Chitila Municipality, Mr. Emilian Oprea, and the entire local administration for their forward-thinking vision.
By choosing to prioritize hyper-local, highly accurate air quality data, Chitila is taking a massive step toward a healthier, smarter urban environment. They understand that you cannot improve what you cannot measure, and their commitment to deploying top-tier environmental sensors proves their dedication to the well-being of their citizens.
To ensure this infrastructure continues to deliver uncompromised accuracy, yesterday’s field intervention focused on three critical technical pillars:
- Precision Hardware Upgrade: We successfully extracted and replaced the high-precision Bettair sensor cartridge. Because environmental sensors process raw, volatile chemical compounds daily, routine hardware calibration and replacement are essential to maintaining the integrity of the data.
- Hybrid Energy Transition: Resilience is the backbone of any smart city. We upgraded the station from a strictly off-grid solar and battery setup to a stable, direct grid power connection. Crucially, the system is now configured to automatically switch back to solar and battery power on the rare occasions when grid power is down, ensuring zero data loss during localized outages.
- Cloud Synchronization & Telemetry: Physical hardware is only as good as its digital heartbeat. We generated on-site diagnostic logs and worked closely with remote teams to validate real-time telemetry transmission, ensuring the newly installed hardware was instantly recognized by the cloud architecture.
The Power of Strategic Partnerships
Building the cities of the future is not a solo endeavor. It requires an ecosystem of reliable partners who share a commitment to engineering excellence.
A massive thank you to the team at Bettair Cities for their outstanding hardware architecture, clear maintenance protocols, and seamless remote technical support during our field operations. Their technology remains the gold standard for urban air quality mapping.
I also want to extend a special note of gratitude to HIAROM INVEST. Maintaining high-altitude urban infrastructure requires serious machinery. Their heavy-duty equipment effortlessly supported the operation — and safely hoisted the 150KG true-blue grub that is Airvolt’s present-day CEO into the sky.
The Airvolt Standard
The “CEO on a Pole” initiative isn’t just about a single maintenance run; it is a reflection of our operational philosophy. Whether we are engineering dual-use microgrids, developing carbon-negative building retrofits, or ensuring a single air quality sensor is perfectly calibrated, we are deeply invested in the mechanics of our solutions.
The Bettair Cities Chitila Air Quality Station is now 100% online, fully powered, and actively mapping the air. We will continue to build, climb, and innovate until every community has the infrastructure it needs to thrive in a changing climate.
