With over 18 years of international experience spanning intellectual property strategy, advanced engineering, and executive leadership, Venkat operates at the intersection of invention, risk management, and institutional credibility. His career has been shaped by building and defending IP portfolios in some of the world’s most regulated and innovation-intensive industries, including medical devices, healthcare technologies, and advanced engineering systems.
He is a prolific inventor with more than 50 granted patents worldwide and has been inducted into the Ethicon Endo-Surgery Inventor Hall of Fame, a distinction awarded for sustained excellence in innovation and patent contribution. During his tenure at Johnson & Johnson and its operating companies, including Ethicon and Cordis, Venkat led global IP strategy initiatives supporting multi-billion-dollar product franchises, aligning patent portfolios with long-term R&D, business strategy, and litigation-aware risk management.
Venkat’s foundation as a mechanical engineer and researcher in nanomaterials, fuel cells, and advanced materials gives him a rare ability to engage deeply with inventors while maintaining strategic oversight at the executive level. He has held senior leadership roles including General Manager for Legal and Intellectual Property Rights at Meril Lifesciences, where he oversaw enterprise-wide IP strategy, patent analytics integrated into new product development, and IP risk management during periods of accelerated innovation and global disruption.
Across his career, he has built and mentored high-performing IP teams, designed inventor recognition programs, and collaborated closely with R&D, legal, and senior leadership to ensure that innovation is not only created, but also protected, defensible, and scalable over long horizons.
Venkat has been involved with Airvolt since before the company’s first application to the EIC Accelerator in late 2023 and is a long-term shareholder in the company. In his advisory role, he supports Airvolt’s leadership on matters of intellectual property architecture, innovation defense, and strategic foresight as the company develops clean air media infrastructure at global scale.
His work focuses on ensuring that Airvolt’s IP strategy evolves in lockstep with its hardware systems, data layers, regulatory embedding, and international expansion. He advises on portfolio design, disclosure discipline, and long-term defensibility, helping safeguard the company’s innovations against competitive pressure, regulatory scrutiny, and institutional due diligence.
